The U.S. Mint opened orders for the 2026 Semiquincentennial Proof Set on October 6 at noon ET. Ten San Francisco proofs, nine dual-dated 1776~2026, including a proof Lincoln cent now that circulating cent production has ended. Candidate reverse designs are out for the four 2028 American Innovation $1 coins: center-pivot irrigation for Nebraska, the Pueblo chile for Colorado, unmanned aircraft systems for North Dakota, and the Dupree family for South Dakota. No design has been picked yet.

GreatCollections' Sunday, October 4 closings were led by a Fr. 377 1890 $100 "Watermelon" Treasury Note from the Schwenk Family Collection, PMG Very Fine 20 with restoration noted. A PCGS MS-66 1893 Morgan dollar, which GreatCollections calls tied for finest at PCGS, came next. Both figures include the buyer's fee.

Gold Standard Auctions' October 1-4 consignment sale ran 2,950 lots. An Uncirculated 1886 $20 gold double eagle led the published results, followed by an Uncirculated 1848 CAL. $2.50 quarter eagle. These are hammer prices, before the buyer's premium.

Heritage will offer the PCGS MS68 1792 half disme, which it calls the sole finest certified, as Lot 3414 in its October 8 U.S. Coins Signature Auction. CoinWeek's preview says the coin's long-repeated David Rittenhouse pedigree is now in question. No result yet.

Kitco reports that delegates at the 2026 LBMA conference expect gold near $5,013.30 an ounce and silver near $97 a year from now. Spot gold was $4,163.30 when Kitco published. Last year's delegates guessed $4,980.30 and missed.

The World Gold Council says central banks reported 39 net tonnes of gold buying in August, led by China, Uzbekistan and Poland, and 170 tonnes so far in 2026. Kitco wrote up the update.
