With circulating cent production over, Richard Giedroyc walks through the Common Cents Act now in Congress, which would keep the cent going as a collector-only coin and asks for a cheaper nickel, possibly zinc with a nickel outer layer. He puts the cents still out there at about 300 billion, roughly $8 a person.

A newly reported 1776~2026 Trump dollar is missing the outer layer on its portrait side, so the copper core shows through while the reverse stays golden. CoinWeek, citing MintErrorNews, says NGC graded it MS 65 and it weighs 6.1 grams against a normal 8.1. Mike Byers Inc. is asking $25,000; that's an asking price, not a sale.

Coin World's weekly price review found only about 3.6% of the prices it tracks changed, with 3,501 down and 643 up. Nearly all the declines, 3,380 of them, hit common-date pre-1933 gold priced near melt, mostly about 1%. American Eagle palladium coins from 2017 to 2020 fell 12% to 30%, while large cents and Seated Liberty quarters mostly rose.

The People's Bank of China added 21 tonnes of gold in September, bringing its reserves to 2,196 tonnes. Kitco says it's the 23rd straight month of buying and the biggest monthly add since September 2023.

Gold and silver fell hard Wednesday after the Fed's minutes kept a December rate hike on the table and Treasury yields stayed high. When Kitco filed its afternoon report, spot gold was near $4,109.90 an ounce, down 1.28%, and silver near $59.67, down 2.55%.

The first 137 lots of the Candace D. Kagin hobo nickel collection brought over $100,000 in Kagin's September 28 online session. A carving of "Sara" by Bert led at $11,100, including the 20% buyer's charge. Two more sessions are tentatively set for January 25 and August 30, 2027.
