A quiet Saturday read. A famous modern prototype is heading back to the auction block, the Mint's new Trump dollar posts its first sales numbers, and gold finished the week a few dollars shy of $4,200.
The 1971-S Eisenhower dollar prototype discovery coin (Judd-2147, PCGS SP-67, CAC Green), bought out of a dealer's tube for under $10 in 2008 and sold by Heritage for $264,000 in January 2022, is back at GreatCollections in the auction closing Sunday, Oct. 18. The $264,000 figure is as reported by CoinWeek, which doesn't say whether it includes the buyer's premium.

The Donald J. Trump dollar landed on the Mint's sales report with tens of thousands of 100-coin bags and even more 25-coin rolls sold; the 2026 Palladium Eagle came in just under 5,000 and the Calvin Coolidge presidential medal topped 10,000. Figures are U.S. Mint numbers compiled Sept. 16.
